About MCB The
Manx Computer Bureau was founded in 1972 by Capt. McKenzie. It is
distinguished by the purchase and installation of the first
time-sharing computer on the Island, a DEC PDP-11/40. This took
place late in 1973 and it soon had to satisfy a growing awareness on
the Island for the commercial use of computers through Manx Computer
Bureau Limited. From its inception the Bureau has concentrated on
time-sharing services covering the full area of Bureau work - mainly
commercial. Accounts, payroll, job-costing, billing, company records
etc., were developed and continue to be provided being enhanced as
necessary. Recently the payroll system was replaced with an up-to-date package offering much improved capabilities, including the ability ot provide bespoke reports. The changes also included a full upgrade of the BACS infrastructure to BACSTEL-IP using a package provided by the leading BACS software supplier.
Over the years the company has introduced
extra facilities and services as the opportunities presented
themselves. Due to the substantial local customer base a computer
supplies operation has proved very successful and it is a major
supplier on the Island of computers and computer consumables.
