"District Licensing Courts under the presidency of the High Bailiffs were established in 1876. Since then, all liquor licences have been issued and signed by the High Bailiff sitting in the Licensing Court which granted the licence.

"A pub crawl through history" - what a pub crawl and what a history! The Pub, The Inn holds a fascination for many. Let your imagination run over the "mildly indelicate" story of how 'Beautiful Billy' came to be so known. Ponder a while, if you have the courage, on the legends associated with the former Marine in Crown Street, Peel; I do not recall having had to deal with an assault, let alone a fatality centered on a jackdaw...!

Suzanne is to be congratulated for the way in which she has developed her labour of love into this interesting volume which I commend to you."
Andrew Williamson, High Bailiff
