Do you live in a traditional Quarterland farmhouse?
Is your house built in the Uplands or Lowlands or on Intack?

The rich architectural variety of traditional rural dwellings in the north of the Isle of Man has gone largely unrecorded.
Daughter of northside farmers, Sue Cannell's thesis, superbly illustrated both by her own drawings and photographs, some published for the first time with the permission of Manx National Heritage, links the design and evolution of such buildings and their chiollaghyn to the Manx landowning system and materials locally available and queries influences from Ireland and Scotland.
Do you know the Manx for the parts of your house ?
Glossaries are included to allow comparison with the English equivalent.
