1) Double click on the 'Connect to the Internet' icon on the Windows desktop.
(If this icon does not appear on your desktop, please do the following; click the start button, then navigate to programs, then accessories, system tools and then single click the 'Welcome to Windows' icon, finally click 'Connect to the Internet' icon.
2) Select 'I have an existing account through my phone line or local area network (LAN) - Help me set up my computer to connect to this internet account'. then click next.
3) Select 'Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet Service Provider or a local area network (LAN)' then click the next icon.
4) Select 'Connect using my phone line' then click next.
5) If you already have an existing dial up connection, highlight it and click next and accept previous details then skip to section 10.
6) If you don't have a dial up connection listed, please do the following;
To create a new dial up connection;
Leave the area code blank, and put 0870 6241100 as the dial-in number, then click next.
7) Enter your username in lower case and your password in the appropriate boxes, then click next.
8) You will then be asked if you wish to amend any advanced settings, click No for
this and then click next.
9) Type MCB Pay as you go into the box, and click next.
10) When prompted to set up an Internet Mail Account, select yes and click next.
11) Select 'create a new Internet Mail Account', if you do have one highlight it and click next and accept previous details and then skip to section 17. If not please do the following;
12) Type your full name (as you would want it to be displayed ) into the Display Name and click next.
13) Type your e-mail address into the box, and click next
14) Select POP3 from the pull down menu list at the top of the screen, type in mail.mcb.net into both the incoming and outgoing mail server boxes, and then click next
15) Enter your username and password, and click next
16) When prompted for a friendly name i.e. Fred's Mailbox, and click next
17) When prompted to set up Internet News Account select yes and click next. If you already have an existing News Account highlight and click next, then confirm the original setting and click next. Then goto section 22.
If you don't have a News Account please do the following;
18) Type in your full name as the display name and click next.
19) Type in your email address again and click next
20) Type in news.mcb.net as the News (NNTP) Server. Make sure the 'My news server require me to log on' is NOT ticked, then click next.
21) When prompted for a friendly name enter 'Internet News', and click next
22) Select no when prompted to set up an Internet Directory Services, and then click next.
23) Click finish.
YOU HAVE NOW CONFIGURED IE4.0 FOR THE INTERNET, AS WELL AS EMAIL AND INTERNET NEWS USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS
NOW YOU NEED TO CONFIGURE YOU COMPUTER SO THAT IT CAN DIAL CORRECTLY TO MCB.NET.
Dialup Networking
1) Double click My Computer
2) Double click Dial Up Networking
3) Single click MCB Pay as you go and choose properties from the file menu
4) Make sure that 'Use area code and Dialing properties is NOT ticked and then select 'Server Types at the top of the window.
5) Ensure that the type of dial-up server is 'PPP:Internet,Windows NT,Windows 2000, Windows 98.
6) In the Advanced Options section, the only item that needs to be ticked is 'Enable Software Compression'
7) In the Allowed Network Protocols, the only necessary item to be ticked is TCP/IP.
8) Then click TCP/IP Settings
9) Click 'Server assigned IP Address'
10) Click 'Server assigned name server address'
11) Make sure IP Header compression and Use default gateway on remote network should also be checked.
12) Click OK | OK | OK
Networking
1) On the desktop double click My Computer
2) Double click Control Panel
3) Double click Network
4) Make sure that amoungst others there is TCP/IP icon and a Dial Up Adapter installed. (If they are installed please go to section 6). If they are not click ADD, and then click CLIENT, and select Microsoft from the manufacturer.
5) Select TCP/IP as the network protocol, then select OK.
6) Highlight TCP/IP and click properties.
7) Press the IP Address Tab
Select 'Server assigned IP Address'
8) Press the DNS Configuration Tab. Disable DNS should be selected
9) Press the Gateway tab. There should not be any installed. If there are remove them.
10) Click OK | OK | OK
11) You should now be asked to restart your computer and you should do this now.
Once your computer has restarted double click on the Internet Icon on your desk top will prompt you to connect to the Internet.
