2. In the “Dial-Up Networking” window, select the service you want to call from the “Phonebook entry to dial” drop-down list.

3. In the “Connect to” window, make the following entries:

a. In the “User name” field, enter your hostname followed by @mcb.net. Use all lower case letters (be sure the Caps Lock key is off) with no spaces. Either of these can cause your authentication to fail. For example, if your hostname is freda, the entry would read:

freda@mcb.net

b. In the Password field, enter your password. Passwords are case sensitive, so be sure the Caps Lock key is off and you type it correctly.

c. Make sure the Domain field is empty (this field is used only for Windows NT domains).

d. Leave the “Save password” box unchecked. Click OK.

4. A “Connect to” status window will appear while your modem dials, establishes a connection, and verifies your user name and password. Once you have successfully connected, you will see a “Connection Complete“ window. Click OK. The “Dial-Up Networking Monitor” icon (a tiny telephone handset) is located in the lower-right of the Taskbar next to the time clock.

You may now use Internet applications, such as e-mail, telnet, or a World Wide Web browser.

If your modem fails to dial or establish a connection, make sure it is turned on and the phone cord is firmly attached. Also check that your Caps Lock key is off (passwords are case sensitive) and that your user name and other information is correct following the instructions above.

Disconnecting From a Session (Closing Your Modem Connection)

1. Quit all the Internet applications you have open.

2. Double-click the “Dial-Up Networking Monitor” icon (a tiny telephone handset) located in the lower-right of the Taskbar next to the time clock. Click “Hang-up” and “Yes” to confirm.
