Frequently Asked Questions

How can I test my Telephone line for clarity?

With the speed of modern modems used for Internet connections the clarity of the telephone line is very important. Any noise on the line can reduce or even stop data transmission, resulting in poor performance and dropped lines.

You can check the clarity of the line by picking up the telephone handset and dialling '1'. You will get about 20 seconds with no tones. If you hear lots of snaps, crackles and pops or even cross talk you need to speak to the telephone company service desk, for Manx Telecom dial 151.

So, the next time Windows reports that the line has dropped or that you have been disconnected, follow the instructions above.
